Core & Assistance Exercises

Core Exercises (or lifts)

Not core exercises you may be thinking of like crunches and planks

  • Often referred to as compound exercises and used in programs to increase overall strength.

  • Multipoint movement

  • Recruits large muscle groups

Examples

Squats

Deadlifts

Bench Press


Assistance Exercises (or lifts)

  • Often referred to as isolation exercises and used in programs to help prevent injuries and address imbalances.

  • Single joint movement

  • Recruits small muscle groups

Examples:

Bicep Curls

Tricep kickbacks

Calf Raises


Most balances training programs include a combination of core and assistance exercises.
